Cross-domain threads

Five structural parallels between AI alignment work and DeFi mechanism design.

Summary

Five threads that connect the cetacean / AI research work to the blockchain / DeFi venture work. Each is a structural parallel that holds at the level of the underlying problem. And each gets developed in the writing as a long-form bridge piece when the analogy matures.

  1. Tokenomics ↔ AI incentive alignment. Goodhart's Law manifests identically in mechanism design and in reward-function design.
  2. Agentic systems ↔ DeFi automation. HITL architecture. When an agent should act versus escalate. Is the same architectural problem in autonomous monitoring and in smart-contract autonomy.
  3. Multimodal fusion ↔ institutional signal processing. Attention, fusion architectures, and cross-modal alignment apply to sensor data and to institutional flow data with surprising fidelity.
  4. Ecosystem design ↔ AI alignment. The deepest thread. Objective specification and robustness to optimization pressure is structurally identical in token-economy design and in alignment work.
  5. Environmental AI ↔ ReFi. Distributed sensor networks, real-time intervention, and on-chain impact measurement share an architecture.

Why it matters

The five threads are the most original intellectual content the work produces. Each one is a methods-note candidate, a bridge piece for blog.gryps.finance, or. Collectively. The through-line of the graduate-application narrative that ties the research and the venture work into a single intellectual program.

What was noteworthy

The discipline is honest analogy. Each bridge piece has to prove the analogy holds at the structural level, name where the analogy breaks, and refuse to fudge the disanalogy. Most cross-domain writing leans on the parts that work and quietly drops the parts that don't. This thread refuses that move.
