Cetacea Foundation
Advanced technologies for the planet, marginalized communities, and our co-habitants. US and New Zealand. Founder and lead.
Mission
Cetacea Foundation applies AI, advanced acoustics, and modern wellness technology where the mainstream tech industry doesn't reach: marginalized communities, indigenous peoples, neurodivergent groups, the natural environment, and our non-human co-habitants. The multimodal-AI cetacean monitoring work is one of several research and applied work streams, not the entire program.
Current research thread
The primary methods question right now: does fusing acoustic, kinematic, and environmental sensor data improve cetacean stress detection over acoustic-only baselines? Secondary thread: agentic monitoring systems with human-in-the-loop intervention architecture. Outputs target a methods note (JOSS or Methods in Ecology and Evolution, autumn 2026) and the Foundation's broader application portfolio.
Why this configuration
The cross-domain bet is that AI alignment work and DeFi mechanism design face the same structural problems — incentive design under uncertainty, multimodal signal fusion, autonomous systems with human oversight — and that working in both surfaces the methodological transfer. See cross-domain threads for the five live parallels.
